Our private equity investment and investment management activities focus on high growth opportunities, turnarounds and situations that require innovative solutions in dynamically changing market circumstances. We often invest the firm’s capital in partnership with reputable industry specialists, institutional and/or private investors. We are generally active investors with clear views on how to move the business forward and, if necessary, are hands-on involved in the operations of our portfolio companies.
We believe in sustainable development where investment makes a positive long-term impact on achieving certain development objectives that benefit the world, while simultaneously generating a risk-adjusted, market conform return for investors. For this reason, Sequoia’s private equity investment portfolio and investment management activities include, amongst others, (i) a USD 125 million microfinance equity fund and one of the world’s largest international microfinance institutions serving in excess of 1 million female micro-entrepreneurs in 11 countries in Asia and Africa, (ii) the leading privately-owned hospital group in the Netherlands, dedicated to improving the quality, accessibility and efficiency of the Dutch healthcare sector, (iii) an innovative plastic recycling company that focuses on replacing the necessity for producing a large variety of plastic products from fossil fuels with compounds made from recycled household waste, and (iv) a material science, marketing and production company that in collaboration with the Technical University of Delft has developed carbon networks, which is a newly invented, globally patented material made of pure carbon that in combination with a wide range of commonly-used materials, such as polymers (plastics, epoxies) and elastomers (tires, hoses, cables), reduces the weight and enhances key mechanical properties of final end products made of such materials.
The firm is owned and managed by Dirk Brouwer, who has been active in the financial services sector for most of his professional career. Since its inception, Sequoia has completed numerous assignments and investments with a combined transaction value in excess of EUR 20 billion.
