Lemnis Lighting

One of the investments Sequoia is currently involved in, is Dutch LED lighting pioneer Lemnis Lighting. Lemnis Lighting was founded in 2005 by Tendris Holding and the inventors of the core technology, and is a widely regarded as one of the world's leading LED lighting companies.

Lemnis focuses on introducing and marketing sustainable LED technology with the aim to reduce overall CO2 emissions and promote energy efficiency. Lemnis received international attention in 2009 through the mass roll-out of LED products in a national campaign initiated by the Dutch Postcode Lottery. Currently, Lemnis’ products are available in national and international supermarkets, DIYs and other retail outlets.

Sequoia has been actively involved in Lemnis’ strategic, financial and operational challenges since 2007 and joined the ranks of investors in 2008. As such, Sequoia is directly involved in value creation processes in the broadest sense. As an example, Sequoia is responsible for corporate development, the active marketing of Lemnis products through its network, and is constantly on the lookout for alternative distribution and financing models.

Lemnis was elected as ‘World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer’ in 2009 and won the ‘Lighting Africa’ Award of the World Bank for the solar/lighting solution it presented.
